The UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) hosted the first Middle East DNS Forum co-organized by the ICANN and ISOC.
I had the opportunity to speak at the MENA DNS Forum held February 3-4 2014 in Dubai, in the session “Getting ready for the new gTLDs”.
The session provided an update on the new gTLD program;
– Shed some light on mechanisms for protecting trademarks and intellectual property rights;
– Share insights on the range of opportunities new gTLDs can offer for businesses and consumers;
– Discuss the potential impact of IDN gTLDs on the overall domain name industry in the Middle East;
– How do new gTLD applicants from the region envision the success of their respective new gTLDs.
The ME DNS Forum is the place to meet and network with the industry’s top players. Participants from ICANN, ISOC, Registries, Registrars, Registrants, ccTLDs, New gTLD Applicants, service providers, brand owners, and legal firms will attend the event in an aim to build bridges between interested parties in the region and world’s experts in the field; share experiences and best practices; inform the audience of what is taking place in the domain name industry at a global level, and of emerging business opportunities.
The end target of having such an annual forum is to spread the message around and introduce interested parties to the key players in the industry, thus leading to a stronger domain name industry in the region.
