My first full-time job was in a Casino. Yes, it was a Casino.
Casino Cleopatra in Hammamet was the first and biggest Casino in Tunisia ( there were 2 others but smaller and not managed properly as a casino). It was a big and separate building from the hotel property and managed by a separate management team.
I had the responsibility since I joined to control the revenue of the Casino, but as I was not trained for that kind of job, neither do my manager nor anyone else in the management team, I had to do my own work and prepare a full procedure manual that explains the functioning of a casino and its business functions ( slot machines, table games, Cashier, … ).
Very quickly I became trusted by the Tunisian management team to lead the Management Control function and I acted as a bridge between the 2 managements teams that run the Casino:
- A Tunisian management team that runs the administrative and financial aspects of the administration, and reporting to Director-General.
- An American management team that runs the casino games team
The Casino was an amazing experience for me as I have learned since that time how to be capable of rapidly build a strong knowledge of an industry that no one had teached you about it.
