Tatooine is one of the fictional planets that appeared in the Star Wars, and the name refers to a city in southern Tunisia. The name of Tataouine come from “Tiṭṭawin” means ‘eyes’ and ‘water springs’ in the Berber language. It is sometimes transliterated in European languages as Tatahouine, Tatahouïne, Tatawin or Tatooine.
In 1999, George Lucas has chosen the Tunisian city to shoot his film “The Phantom Menace” one of the films of the Star Wars Trilogy. He built a settlement of one of the two major spaceport locations “Mos Espa”. Mos Espa is home where Anakin Skywalker spent his childhood in the city, along his mother Shmi. Anakin became the first human to win the race and earned his freedom in the process, due to a bet between Watto and Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn.
Fans of Star Wars have been visiting the settlement in the south of Tunisia for years, but unfortunately, the constructions and the fake house are deteriorating and no one is doing any efforts to maintain the heritage.
